SOUTHBOROUGH CRICKET CLUB COLTS

Welcome back to the new cricket season and we look forward to seeing you at Southborough this year with our qualified coaches, league and other competitive matches and constructive training aimed at improving your skills in an enjoyable way.

  • The first evening practice session will be on Wednesday 25th April at our usual ground on Southborough Common starting at 6.30 p.m. and expected to finish close to 8.15 p.m. We are required to complete registration forms so will get that out of the way as quickly as possible and then start the cricket. Generally there will be someone available for registration by the Pavilion door each Wednesday from 6.15 p.m. onwards, but please note that you need to ensure that your children sign in before each session as we cannot be responsible for them prior to that.
  • The junior cricket is open to all although inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.
  • Please spread the word as not everyone is on e-mail and bring along any friends who are keen cricketers. Paul Higgs will again be managing the under 15 team (this year in the Mid Kent Youth league) who improved so much over last season and Brian Hobden is keen to arrange more matches for the younger Colts and see who can earn Asda cricket awards this year.
  • The end of Colts season barbeque, which is always a great event thanks to Mandy and Mark Pulsford and other parents, is planned for 18th July and so be sure to put that date in your diaries.
  • Cricket whites are only necessary for matches and if you playing with a proper cricket ball you must have your own protective cricket box, otherwise equipment can be provided.
  • The cost of coaching and junior membership is a ‘one –off’ £45 for the 13 week season (averaging under £4 per session) payable on the first evening you attend. A small charge may be requested for matches. Despite the increasing cost of coaching qualifications, equipment and facilities and thanks to the volunteer coaches, we have deliberately kept this cost down to hopefully encourage all aspiring cricketers. This year we are again intending to use the ground and all weather facility at Meadows School opposite.
  • We really appreciate the support we have had from parents and friends in recent seasons and are fortunate in having a very good team of people running the Colts. However we do now need more volunteers particularly from Parents to enable us to play more matches and continue to develop the coaching. If you are interested, please do speak to or contact Peter so that he can explain further as it is enjoyable and satisfying and will help the Colts considerably. Although not essential, we are encouraging volunteers to go on coaching courses whether it be at an initial or more advanced level. We are looking forward to seeing you all up on the Common ready for action on Wednesday and if you or your parents have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me, Peter Young (tel: 01732 850605 & email pyca@aol.com).

Best wishes

Peter Young, Mandy Pulsford, Paul Higgs, Brian Hobden
