Southborough Cricket Club Won by 33 runs

Match report An excellent start to the season.

Southborough Innings

I went into the game concerned we were a little bowler heavy! Considering all 11 of our players have bowled in league matches before! however after a few early wickets Jake, Giles and Andy put together a couple of excellent partnerships to take us to over 200 which was worth more like 300 with the slow outfield having an effect.

Jake notched up his second ton for the Borough with some excellent pull shots off the young left arm whippersnapper (later to be the villain in the piece kicking a share at our beloved supporter Soph! - Jamie/Alain was not happy) Jake then took on last year’s leading wicket taker Asif Ali and smashed him to all parts...the oak tree got a bashing!! and last but not least Jake "the entertainer" Marsh wowed the crowds with a lofted reverse sweep!... Giles opened his account with a glorious cover drive which set the tone for his innings with patience and placement finally falling after middling it down the ground straight to mid-off. Andy then ticked over with some great strike rotation allowing Jake to smash it whilst Andy went under the radar but notched up 48 at near a run a ball, a few tail end runs from Taylor with the "Al scoop" and Berendt took up to 233 an excellent score.

Tea was provided by Alain and Soph and was a good start to the cricket season! Only they didn't realise the entire village of Limsfield was coming for Tea! as we ran out of both food and tea bags!

Limpsfield Chart Innings:

I lasted about 5 balls before injuring myself (No it wasn't my thumb this time) its going to be the on-going saga of my back this year! Personally I blame Rumbles for working me too hard! But Jamie took over the captaincy.

Robbie and Alain opened the bowling and to be fair to Alain he should of had a wicket of Ali early on an excellent delivery angled away from the left hand drew the edge and would of been snaffled by Jake behind the stumps (But... Jake had got the memo to drop any chances of Alain) so Ali then smashed Al for a couple of lusty blows!.. Robbie at the other end bowled with a great line and length moving it in to the left hander and away from the right.. (from my view on the bench on the boundary wrapped up with my coat as it was very cold!!!)

Robbie finally got the breakthrough Ali edging to Andy at first slip, following up by an in swinging Yorker to Shaw to take 2 in 2, the captain Holman avoided the hat-trick ball, Hukam and Immy then took over and kept it very tight bowling 14 overs for 50 runs and with the required rate at the start being 5.8 rpo and the two keeping it down to 3.5 rpo this effectively took the game away from Limpsfield.

Hobden and Tucker came on to bowl the last 15 overs combining well, Tucker bowling with pace and aggression banging away with his back of the length bowling, Hobden at the other end with his wirily frame bundling in with youth and exuberance bowled with great accuracy with a stump to stump line, Hobden got the key man Richardsen caught brilliantly under the tree by Buckets (Hukam) and then the procession began Hobden bowling Kay / Peters / house and finally after Westcott danced down the pitch and got hit on the arm. Hobden followed it with a tope of off delivery sending the batsman stomping back to the pavilion throwing his bat in the process and then departing straight off home!... dear oh dear!..but that made 5 for Hobden and an excellent start to the season Tucker then pinned Keenan Tighe LBW and another tantrum ensued with the young lad kicking the chair on the boundary into Soph!... Their captain did apologise.. but sadly the young lad didn't have the Cojones to apologise himself!

But that about wrapped up the game and a comfortable victory for the Borough by 33 runs..

Man of the Match - A close call between Jake and Hobden but on this occasion it goes to the Batsman a chanceless 50 and a collection of excellent power shots got us up to a score that never had us in doubt!..
