Message from the chair

With just under seven weeks until our intra-club T20, thoughts and actions are turning firmly towards the coming season.

In the senior section, Tom Williams continues as first team captain, joined by Jamie Brown leading the second team and Hassan Hadi taking on Sunday skippering duties. In the junior section, we have some parents of our juniors going through the ECB Foundation Coach course which will further increase the number of qualified coaches, allowing us to deliver even more engaging sessions and support development of our juniors.

The junior section this year will see us fielding teams at Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13 age groups as well as two sides at Under 15s. One of the Under 15 sides will be playing in the U15 Premier League, pitting themselves against the town sides such as Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks Vine and Holmesdale. We look forward to seeing how all our teams fare this season and wish them the best.

Away from playing, there’s lots of activity taking place, such as: our sponsorship secretary who is currently engaging local businesses to further increase the number of local businesses that support us; our club safeguarding officer who is busy making sure all DBS certificates and First Aid training is up to date; and, our 150 Club co-ordinator who is busy trying to increase the number of regular players.

There are though some important tasks prior to the season where we need engagement from the wider membership. These include the two work parties and a potential Club Awards evening.

Dates for your diary

9 April – work party (from 9.30am)

9 April – Club Awards’ Dinner (tbc)

23 April – work party (tbc, but a few hours prior to the intra-club match)

Please put these in your diary and make every effort to attend to support your club.

Senior cricket

Five weeks into the indoor training sessions and attendance has been largely ok. With seven weeks to go, it would be good to see a real effort from all those that have yet to surface, so the captains have a better idea of who is still around to play, who has retired or potentially moved away!!

Junior cricket

The Under 13 and Under 15s are partway through their indoor training programme and the Under 11s are due to start some taster sessions later this month.

A communication from the junior co-ordinator will be going out shortly setting out the junior outdoor programme: this will include registration details and how to make payment.

Club shop

As mentioned at the time of the last order, there is a planned bulk order for the club shop items so that the kit arrives in time for the season. If you are interested in any items of clothing from the club shop, the cut-off date is Friday 25 March. All items are ordered and paid through the shop – either on-line at https://www.kentcricketdirect.co.uk/teamwear/southborough-cc-shop/ (password SCC2021) or arranged through the shop. There will be a further bulk order arranged for part way through the season, but there is no indicative time as yet.
